Our Responsible Travel Policy

At Two Ravens, we believe that travel should be a force for good — positively impacting the environment, local communities, and the cultures we embrace. Our Responsible Travel Policy outlines our commitment to sustainable practices that enhance the travel experience while respecting the places we visit.

1. Supporting Local Communities

– Local Partnerships: We collaborate with local businesses to ensure that tourism revenue directly supports the community. This includes using local accommodation and transportation services to enrich the traveler’s experience and create local employment opportunities.

– Local guides: For the same reasons, we only use local guides in Two Ravens. We also believe that local guides are the key to unlocking the true essence of a destination. The deep-rooted understanding of the terrain, culture, and hidden gems allow us to curate unforgettable journeys that go beyond the ordinary.

– Fair Employment Practices: We are committed to fair wages and working conditions for all employees and contractors in our supply chain.

– Cultural Exchange: We facilitate opportunities for cultural exchange by using local guides who share their personal stories of growing up in Greenland, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of local customs and lifestyles.

We work with small groups and a low guide-guest ratio as we value the personal relationships highly and want to make sure that the guides have time to interact with all the guests. We also do small groups to not make too big of an impact where we go.

Furthermore, we always include local food in our programs so that our guests can experience Greenlandic food culture and learn about the stories behind the food we eat and serve. We either buy local produce or catch or collect ingredients ourselves during the trip, such as fish, mussels, and berries.

– Two Ravens donate outdoor adventures to the Adventure Travel Conservation Fund (@atconservationfund) to support vital global conservation efforts; protecting ecosystems, wildlife, and local cultures through responsible tourism.

2. Commitment to Environmental Sustainability

– Waste Reduction: We advocate for a ‘Leave No Trace’ philosophy among our guests. We are born and raised in a culture with great respect for nature. In Greenland nature rules and sustainable living is very rooted in our culture, which is also reelected in the way we share our nature and culture with our guests.

– Low Carbon Footprint: At Two Ravens, close to all our tours are low-impact tours that prioritize active experiences with human powered transportation, such as hiking, trekking, backpacking, kayaking, etc. While we do utilize boat transportation to reach our basecamp sites—an essential means of navigating the vast fjords of Greenland—we strive to ensure that our tours remain as environmentally responsible as possible.

90% of our tours feature tent accommodations that are free from heating and pollution.

3. Promoting Cultural Respect

– Cultural Sensitivity: We design our trips with respect for local traditions and customs. E.g. We do not go into areas where we know that local families have been going foraging, etc for decades.

4. Education and Awareness

– Nature Awareness Programs: We are passionate about sharing our knowledge and skills for exploring the wild and often challenging landscapes of Greenland. To foster this love for nature, we have developed a nature awareness program designed for children, teaching them how to engage with the outdoors safely and respectfully, covering activities such as camping, fire-making, foraging, making safe route choices and much more.

This also provides children from families who may not have the means to travel with an alternative retreat and a chance to make new friends.

We offer a similar course targeted at elementary school teachers, to encourage them to spend more time outdoors with the children; to inspire them and to teach them how to engage with the outdoors safely and respectfully.

– Safety in tourism: We will also be offering an Arctic wilderness first responder course for guides who operate in nature in Greenland. Safety has our highest priority and we want to contribute to ensuring that we as a tourism industry have the best possibilities of developing our skills within safety.
