(Snowshoe) Adventure in Nuuk’s Wilderness
Come hike with us – on snowshoes in winter time – into the remote wilderness of Nuuk and spend a night in a tent set amidst mountains and (frozen) lakes. This excursion begins on the outskirts of the city and swiftly immerses you in the Arctic wilderness, away from the hustle and bustle of the urban environment. Along the way, you’ll be treated to magnificent views of the sea and fjords surrounding Nuuk. Did you know that Nuuk Fjord is the world’s second-largest fjord system?!
The night will be spent in cozy tents amidst the untamed nature. Your guide will prepare a dinner ( expeditionstyle) . Feel free to ask about life in Greenland; our guide is eager to share their experiences of growing up in this unique place.
A Night Under the Northern Lights (end August to April)
After dinner and sharing stories, imagine settling into a warm sleeping bag, listening to the wind outside and the gentle flapping of the tent, while engaging in conversations with your fellow adventurers. On clear nights – and in northern light season (End August to April), this spot offers an opportunity to witness the mesmerizing northern lights up close, away from the city’s light pollution. While there are no guarantees of northern lights activity, this location presents an excellent chance to catch a glimpse of this natural wonder!
Following breakfast and a morning cup of coffee or tea brewed from melted snow or fresh river water, we’ll make our way back to civilization, enriched with unforgettable experiences and new tales to share.
Local guide(s)
You will be guided by local guides. We believe that local guides are the key to unlocking the true essence of a destination. The deep-rooted understanding of the terrain, culture, and hidden gems allow us to curate an unforgettable journey that go beyond the ordinary. They will give you the opportunity to explore the wonders of Greenland, in a way that few have the privilege to do.
We meet at the meeting point at 3 pm, and will return the next day around noon.
Either take a taxi to Uiffak 10 – the end of the road. Or take the bus no. 1 and get off at Tikiusaaq bus stop. Then walk up Musaq road and turn right at Uiffak road and walk to the end of the road.
Layering lets you adjust your clothing as the temperature changes throughout the day. Start with your base layer to keep moisture off your skin, add mid layers for warmth, and top it off with your waterproof shell to stay dry and shielded from wind.
For winter tours: During the cold winter months we recommend to bring an extra warm (e.g. down) jacket to wear at camp at night.
Bring a full water bottle. You can refill in the creeks, or the guide will melt snow if it’s freezing.
