A Spectacular Summit Sleepover

A mountaintop sleepover with a spectacular 360-degree view of the deep fiords of Nuuk to the big straight over to Canada – what’s not to like?! Close to the summit of Kangilia at the height of about 720 meters above the sea, lies a gem. Sheltered from the colder northern winds, placed close to a summit, there is a plateau facing east, perfect for an unforgettable sunset and rise.

The Magic of Sleeping Under the Open Sky

Imagine lying in your warm sleeping bag, on a mountaintop, enjoying your cup of local tea made with the surrounding melting water from the leftovers of the cold harsh winter. And to make the experience as memorable and viewwise mind-blowing, we will sleep under the open sky – oh yes!

FAQ

Where and what time do we meet and depart?

Meeting point: Uiffak 10 (https://maps.app.goo.gl/KAypGtJ6mtb1nz2B9?g_st=ic) You can take a taxi or a bus to get there (https://bus.gl/en/). Taxi numbers are  00299 36 36 36 or 00299 321 321.

If you are going by bus, you should take no 1 or no 1x and get off at stop no 50 Tikiusaaq. From there you walk up the Musaq road and turn right at Uiffak road. The meeting point is at the end of this road.

Meeting time: The tour starts at 3 pm, but we appreciate it if you can be there 10 min before. The guide will be waiting for you at the meeting point.

The descent (which is approx. 2-2,5 hours long) will start before noon the day after, depending on the weather, so we will be back at start point around 1 pm.

What clothing should I wear?

What you think is essential for a Mountaintop Sleepover: Warm layered clothing like Moisture-Wicking Base Layers: Long-sleeve tops and bottoms. Insulating Layers: Fleece jacket or down jacket. Waterproof/windproof Jacket and Pants: To protect against rain and wind. Hiking Pants: Quick-drying and comfortable. Extra pair of socks.

What should I bring?

A sleeping bag (3-seasons sleeping bag) and sleeping pad (if you want to use your own, otherwise it is included in the trip)

A backpack where you can strap on a sleeping pad and carry your sleeping bag and personal gear and clothes.

Water bottle

Warm hat, gloves, buff or scarf

Sturdy shoes (e.g. hiking boots)

Sunglasses and sunscreen (depending on weather)

Head net and insect repellent (in case of mosquitoes)

Layered clothing. Ideally, you should pack a thermal underwear layer (top and bottom), activity layer (e.g. hiking pants), insulation layer (e.g. fleece jacket), and outer layer of windproof clothing (top and bottom). You may not need all of this on any particular day, but you should have it available.

Is there water?

Bring a full water bottle. You can refill in the creeks, or the guide will melt snow if it’s freezing.

How long is the hike?

The hike is approximately 3 hours, and is a bit tough, steady and long ascent, but with loads of fun, interesting and beautiful things to see on the way.

Is there a toilet?

No, but we will bring toilet paper.

Is there phone reception?

Depending on where we put the camp, but 90% of the area is covered.

Can I bring and drink alcohol on the trip?

Yes, you are allowed to. Please for safety, drink responsibly and respect the rest of the group.

What happens if it’s bad weather?

In case of unpleasant or wet weather, there will be a tent to sleep in, but only if the guide decides it’s necessary – we want to make sure we feel nature as close as we can – that way your story will be even better to tell when you get back to the comfy couch.

We monitor weather forecasts closely and will notify guests in advance if a cancellation is necessary. In such cases, you will receive a full refund minus the credit card processing fee.

Note:

The itinerary is tentative and may be adjusted based on the guests’ abilities and the weather conditions to ensure the safety of the group.
